The Blanco Chamber of Commerce began producing the Blanco Lavender Festival in 2005. In that same year, the 79th Texas Legislature named the Blanco Lavender Festival as the Official Lavender Festival of Texas.
Many things have changed since 2005, but what remains the same is our community having the opportunity to welcome thousands of visitors to town for the three-day festival. Local businesses and City entities enjoy a boost in revenue from the visitors that come to the festival, spend the weekend, eat in our restaurants and shop in our stores. Employees of these businesses benefit as well from additional work hours and inevitably turn around and spend that extra income right here in Blanco.
The Lavender Festival is a wonderful event for tourists and it is great for our local businesses, but it is also the main fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce for the year. The proceeds of the festival are put toward general operating expenses, such as a full time staff person. The monies raised from the festival help the Chamber to be able to offer membership programs and events throughout the year, while keeping our membership dues at a reasonable level.
